He Was There
By

Prelude:
This poem was written after "The Lost Way" This poem will stand alone but should be read after "The Lost Way". The Lost way leaves some things unsaid that I hope this poem brings in to focus. When I was young, I knew the Way and tried my best to walk with Christ.
In times of stress and crisis, I could call his name and feel him close to guide me.
When we were married, Barbara and I knew the Lord stood near and wished us well.
But then the Fates were cruel and I lost the Way
For more than 30 years I thought I walked alone.
Then at last, I found a path back to the Way.
As I look back, I can see, perhaps, I was never so alone as I thought.
When Death was stalking neigh, five times He was turned away .
And, each time, I thought, perhaps, the Lord was near.
Again when a comrades life was slipping away, we prayed together
As he left this life, he smiled, I cried, and later,
I thought, perhaps, the Lord was near.
Later in life, as my children were born and as I held each new born gift in my hands,
I thought, perhaps, the Lord was near.
As each child was married, as they stood before the alter for solemn and happy vows,
I thought, perhaps, the Lord was near.
Again as I held each new born grand child in my arms,
I thought, perhaps, the Lord was near
When my Father passed to the other side in his sleep while looking peaceful in his journey,
I thought, perhaps, the Lord was near
Then once again, I found the Way, with the help of others.
Once again I became a seeker of the Way.
I look back, as I think we all can, and see the times the Lord must have surely been near.
Even though we don’t seen to care, the Lord is there.
I know now that I was only looking the other way and did not see Who was there
I know now that I was like a child playing in the yard, thinking he was on his own
while his mother watched him from the window
I know the Lord was really watching, perhaps even guiding while I looked the other way
Now I know, I was never really alone, the Lord was there.
But I looked the other way
Can we not all look back to some other time and see when the Lord touched our lives?
Now I earnestly pray, that when I look to my side, I will see the Lord there.
Now I earnestly pray for the Lord to take my hand and lead the Way.
Now I don’t only want to look back and see the times the Lord was Near.
I want Him near each and every day to guide the way-------
To do His will.
For My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
For My family
A seeker of the Way
